The International Symposium Lingnan Culture and the World: Waterways, Watermanship and Public Energies was successfully held, bringing together scholars to present high-quality research and engage in in-depth and stimulating discussions. Participants actively contributed to panel sessions and networking exchanges, creating an open and constructive academic atmosphere.
As part of the Symposium, Ma Wan field visit offered participants an immersive learning experience. The visit was organized by Dr. Anthony Leung Po Shan and the Island Studies Network (HK). Through on-site observations across both land and sea, participants gained deeper insights into the “connectivity” and “mobility” that characterize island environments. The field visit also facilitated meaningful exchanges between institution-based and independent scholars, highlighting shared research interests and laying a solid foundation for future collaboration.
The Symposium also attracted encouraging public interest, with a total of 70 registered auditors. Some attendees participated in all sessions and contributed thoughtful and constructive questions during discussions. The event not only strengthened existing academic networks but also extended its reach to a broader audience. It is anticipated that the research presented at the Symposium, once published, will reach a wider readership and contribute positively to both academic and public discourse.
