Book Launch of Ten Digits, Across the Chinese World: The Birth of Mr. Chow Chung Kai’s Input Method Successfully Held

As part of the Hong Kong Book Fair 2026, the book launch of Ten Digits, Across the Chinese World: The Birth of Mr. Chow Chung Kai’s Input Method was held on the afternoon of 18 July 2026 (Saturday). The event was hosted by the book’s text editor, Mr. Timothy Tse, and featured sharing sessions by Dr. Tse Ka Ho and illustrator Mukkid. Together, they invited readers to explore the story of Mr. Chow Chung Kai and the development of the CKC Input Method.

During the event, illustrator Mukkid shared the creative journey behind the book, introducing the concepts behind the various cover designs, the development of the book’s distinctive number characters, and the story behind the adorable crocodile featured on the back cover. A highlight of the event was the first public exhibition of the original illustration sketches, offering readers a rare opportunity to appreciate the artistic process from initial concept to the finished picture book.

Dr. Tse Ka Ho introduced the book as more than a picture book—it is also an interactive audiobook. By scanning the QR codes on the back cover, readers can listen to the story in English, Putonghua, and Cantonese, making it accessible to readers of different ages and linguistic backgrounds. Dr. Tse remarked, “Reading this book is more than simply turning its pages. Whenever readers encounter unfamiliar words or expressions, they can learn through the accompanying audiobook. This design reflects the very philosophy behind Mr. Chow Chung Kai’s creation of the CKC Input Method—to enable more people to use it and empower more people to navigate the digital world in Chinese.”

The event also carried special historical significance. As early as 2000, the CKC Input Method made its first public appearance at the Hong Kong International Education and Careers Expo. Twenty-six years later, the picture-book biography of Mr. Chow Chung Kai made its debut at the same venue during the Hong Kong Book Fair. This meaningful occasion not only paid tribute to Mr. Chow Chung Kai’s lifelong contributions, but also marked another memorable milestone in the evolution of Chinese character input technology.
